バンドエイド事件

ある夜、手あれがひどいのでクリームを塗って、人差し指にはバンドエイドを貼って寝た。
ベッドに入るとバンドエイドがゆるくなっていたので、しっかりと巻きつけた。
その後すぐに眠りに落ちたと思う。
真夜中になにかがおかしい気がして、目が覚めた。
なんと、バンドエイドを巻きつけていた人差し指が、バンドエイドがきつすぎて感覚が全くないのである。寝ぼけたまま「このまま人差し指が使えなくなったらどうしよう」と恐怖におののきながら、長い間マッサージをした。なにか本当に怖かった。
次の朝、私の人差し指は機能していた。
それ以来、バンドエイド貼りにはとても慎重になった。

The band aid incident

One night, as my hands were dry, I put some cream on my hands and wrapped a band aid around my index finger before I went to bed. As soon as I went to bed, I noticed the band aid was getting loose. I tightened it so that it would stay on my finger all night. I fell asleep right after that.
In the middle of the night, I woke up feeling something was very wrong. My index finger was completely numb from the pressure of the band aid. Half asleep, I thought ‘Oh! My goodness, what if I lose my index finger!’
I massaged my index finger for quite a long time, fearing what would happen to my finger after that. Next morning, though, my index finger was fine.
Since that incident, I have been very careful handling band aids.

Running a small business

As I was asked to make a speech at a 'starting your own business seminar' next February in Saijo, Higashi-Hiroshima, I started thinking about the days when I launched B.J.Club English School.
For the first 4 years, from 1995 to 1999, business didn't go well at all. I thought of not continuing B.J.Club and going back to a translating job many times as I hardly made any money and kept spending my savings.
Money wise it was very difficult, but I enjoyed every moment at work. It was my dream came true. I used to go out for a drink with the students (adult students, of course) after class. I had lots of free time to think of what I could do for B.J.Club.
By the year 2000, more students started coming to B.J.Club. Now B.J.Club has excellent teachers and staff. I am proud of our service. What I always have in my mind is 'Keep improving and do my best all the time' .
Today's topic was a bit serious. I will write about my 'band aid incident', next time.

今度の２月に西条東広島で開催される「起業家養成講座」でのスピーチを依頼された。それからbjclubを始めたときの事を、色々と思い出すようになった。
最初の４年間は閑古鳥が泣いていて、BJを廃業して通訳の仕事に戻ろうかと何度も考えた。貯金がだんだんとなくなっていった。金銭面では大変だったけど、毎日充実していた。夢が遂にかなった！という感じだった。レッスンのあとは生徒さんと飲みによく行ったり、とにかく暇だったので、BJの事を考える時間が山ほどあった。
２０００年から少しずつ上向きになっていった。今では優秀な講師陣とスタッフもいる。私は私の学校に誇りを持ち働いている。いつも心がけていることは「満足してはいけない。反省し常に改善して行く事。そしてどんな時もベストな決断、ベストな対応を心がけ、全力を尽くす事」
